New and Improved OWJN

METRAC's Ontario Women's Justice Network (OWJN) website celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2006. Originally launched through a multi-year grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, OWJN has not had sustained funding. It was was shut down in 2003 and was not updated regularly since 2006.

With funding support of the Law Foundation of Ontario, METRAC announced the revitalization of OWJN in 2008. The website was relaunched with new content and an easier navigation system, all the while upholding our commitment to providing accessible, relevant legal information for diverse women on justice issues related to violence against women and girls. New topics that were and will be added to OWJN include workplace harassment, immigration law, same-sex partner abuse, school safety for girls and young women, and issues relelvant to criminalized women and domestic workers/caregivers. The new and improved OWJN was made available online in early 2009.

Access to Justice Projects

Funded by the Law Foundation of Ontario, these projects focus on developing relevant legal information for Aboriginal women, women experiencing workplace violence and harassment, and criminalized/imprisioned women. Materials on the law's impact upon these women are in the process of creation, distribution to the community, and online posting.

Twin Project

Through the Twin Project, funded by the Ontario Government and Family Law Education for Women (FLEW), METRAC ran focus groups with women and leaders in diverse Christian Faith Communities and women who are Domestic Workers. Family law information materials have been created to suit their unique needs and will be released to the public in 2009.

Respect for all People Training Project (RAP)

Funded by the Ministry of the Attorney General, METRAC's RAP trainings were delivered across Ontario in 2008. These trainings were developed to help women's and community service providers better address and prevent hate crimes.
