Board of Directors Application

ABOUT METRAC: Formed in 1984, METRAC is an award-winning and highly respected Toronto not-for-profit agency, provincially incorporated to serve Ontarians. To continue a tradition of excellence, METRAC is currently accepting applications to join its Board of Directors and contribute to building a committed, engaged and active volunteer Board. METRAC’s programs and services are focused on preventing and ending Gender-Based Violence (GBV) towards women, girls, youth, 2-Spirit, Trans and Non-binary people known to be at higher risk of GBV.

Mission: We work to end GBV across communities through education to advance access to justice, safety protections and human rights.

Vision: A safe Toronto and Ontario for All.

Values: Equity, Respect, Safety, Feminism(s), Excellence, Innovation, and Collaboration.

METRAC works from an anti-oppression, non-discriminatory framework. Our volunteer Board of Directors is the public trustee for METRAC. As a member of the Board, each Director acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization. Directors are elected by membership at the Annual General Meeting and serve a two-year term with possibility of re-election for two additional terms, for a total of 6 years.

This application form is for screening purposes only. It will be reviewed and you may be contacted to submit a resume. You may also be asked to attend an interview. If there is a successful match, you may be asked to:

  •  first participate on a board committee,
  • attend a committee meeting, and
  • participate in a follow-up interview with the Board Chair for questions and answers.

If successful, your name is submitted by the Nominations Committee to the Board for recommendation to be put forward at elections to be held at the upcoming Annual General Meeting.

As a Director of METRAC’s Board, you will be asked to attend semi-monthly Board meetings and to serve on one of our Board committees, with a focus on quality and risk (legal) control, including:

– Executive Committee
– Finance and Audit Committee
– Human Resources (HR) and Nominations Committee
– Planning and Evaluation Committee
– Fundraising/Resource Development Committee
– Communications Committee.

You can expect to spend one hour monthly, per committee meeting, plus attend one Board meeting lasting 2 hours, every other month. In general, a commitment of approximately five hours per month (for reading, preparation and meeting attendance) will meet your obligations to the Board. Periodic workshops and development activities are available to all Board members.

Thank you for your interest in applying to become a METRAC Board member. Board members make a valuable commitment and contribution to community service.

If you can make the required commitment to Board work, please complete and submit the application form below, by post-mail or by email to METRAC’s addresses provided at the end of this application.

Note: METRAC welcomes applications from diverse people, especially members of historically marginalized communities. Although METRAC’s office space is currently not wheelchair accessible, we will make every effort to provide alternative in-person accessible meeting space in a physically accessible building and/or via Zoom online meetings.

Note: If you are over 15 years of age or older, you can participate by becoming a voting member of METRAC. If you are 16 years of age or older, you can participate by becoming a volunteer.
