Program Summary: METRAC’s Black Community Cultural Competency (BCCC) Project will examine how Black women access the workforce. We will conduct extensive research on their experiences, including their longevity and advancement in various jobs. This will involve research, gathering data, conducting focus groups, and offering workshops on employment and human rights to educate said group and help them understand their rights and options in Ontario. The project also aims to analyze the systemic issues and biases that affect them in the workplace.
Position Summary: As a Research Consultant, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive research, analyzing data, creating surveys, and providing actionable insights to support METRAC’s Black Community Cultural Competency (BCCC) Project. The Researcher will work closely with the BCCC Program Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Upholds METRAC’s mission, vision, and core values
- Consults and collaborates with community groups/organizations concerning employment practices for Black women in the workforce
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative research to gather insights on industry trends, Black women’s experience in the workforce (historical and current practices)
- Design and implement research methodologies, including surveys, interviews, and focus groups
- Analyze and interpret data using statistical tools and software, presenting findings in clear and compelling formats
- Collaborate with internal teams to integrate research findings into strategic recommendations
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations to communicate insights to the community and relevant parties
- Monitors program outputs and outcomes for reporting and planning purposes
- Prepares written and oral reports on program/project activities, outputs & outcomes
- Ensures that all research and information is gathered and disseminated consistently and in a timely manner
- Collaborates with the BCCC Program Manager to develop terms of reference and operating principles for the entire duration of the project
- Works with the BCCC Program Manager to develop a logical framework for key performance indicators for the project, including those that reflect the guiding principles and values of the project
- Conducts detailed literature reviews to understand the research background and identify gaps in existing knowledge
- Keeps informed about current trends and new developments in research methods
- Ensures that the research adheres to ethical standards and complies with relevant regulations
- Obtains any necessary permissions and approvals when applicable
Skills and Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in a related field (social sciences, women’s studies, business, research, or other equivalent education)
- Minimum of two (2) years experience producing research reports, discussion papers, and conducting detailed research, analysis, and report writing
- Proven experience in research, preferably in a non-profit or consulting environment
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, Excel)
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work
- Ability to collect and maintain sensitive information with confidentiality
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Ability to work effectively independently and within teams
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment requiring collaboration
- Ability to communicate fluently in English
- Knowledge of community-based organizations supporting Black women
- Knowledge of the group being researched (e.g., community development, marginalized groups, Black women’s experience in the workforce, systemic discrimination

- Computer literacy (MS Office suite, databases, social media)

Program Summary: METRAC’s Community Justice Program (CJP) strives to promote access to justice for Ontarians affected by gender-based violence (GBV). CJP’s projects and campaigns educate the public on how different areas of the law and legal system work; so that people can gain a better understanding about their legal rights, responsibilities and options for accessing justice when faced with GBV and related legal problems. CJP’s staff work to strengthen individual, organizational, and community capacity through legal education and information; collaborative community engagement; and promising practices in research, planning and policy.
Position Summary: You will be working on the Creating Safer Workspaces: Workplace Sexual Harassment Project, reporting to the Legal Director, the Project Lawyer works closely with a small team to coordinate and develop legal information and education resources in clear language. Activities include monitoring legal developments relevant to workplace violence; researching; conducting focus groups; creating legal information resources; developing and delivering legal information and education workshops. The Project Lawyer works closely with other METRAC program staff.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Upholds the mission, values, vision and goals of METRAC and the Community Justice Program
- Supports the legal information needs of community partners and METRAC’s programs
- Delivers accessible legal information about workplace sexual harassment
- Conducts legal research for producing inclusive legal information resources
- Creates and oversees the development of clear language legal materials
- Reviews, revises and drafts legal information for written resources and for legal trainings
- Creates content for workplace sexual harassment toolkits and questionnaires
- Builds connections and liaises with community members and organizations
- Maintains a data system by collecting and tracking project activities for evaluation and for reports to funders
- Writes reports for project deliverables
- Keeps abreast of emerging legal issues relevant to the project
- Assists with special METRAC events (i.e. fundraising, AGM, volunteer training)
- Contributes to internal committees and working groups, and seminars
May be required to work occasional evenings and weekends
- Travel flexibility is required
- Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Law degree and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in the practice of employment law; family law and human rights law experience is an asset
- Understanding of legal and social issues pertaining to workplace sexual harassment; violence against women within feminist and gender diversity analysis
- Anti-oppression/intersectional analysis of law, legal systems and law enforcement
- Knowledge of intersecting areas of employment law, immigration law, family law, and human rights law in Ontario
- Ability to carry out legal research and analyses
- Excellent communication skills – written, verbal and inter-cultural skills
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively as a member of a small and diverse team
- Ability to work in a community agency with limited resources
- Computer literacy (MS Office suite)
- Proficiency in speaking languages in addition to English is an asset.
